Junior triathlon squad



Welcome to the Dan McTainsh junior triathlon squad.  We are a Triathlon Australia affiliated squad coached by myself.  I started my coaching career back in 2009, when I obtained my level 1 Triathlon coaching accreditation and I’m now a Performance level, Triathlon Australia coach.  I’ve personally coached a number of athletes from short course triathlon all the way up to having multiple Ironman finishers but my real passion is for junior coaching!  I'm a big believer in having fun while developing the necessary skills to allow juniors to not only enjoy their training and racing but to also equip them with the skills and abilities needed to be competitive.

Our term 4 2021 Training schedule is below.  For this term we're running 4 weekly sessions.  On Wednesday mornings we'll be back doing a run squad at the South Pine Sports Complex.  Friday afternoon is a bike skills session held at the South Pine Sports Complex and Saturday mornings will be mix of open water swim + run and bike + park run as per the schedule below:

TRAINING SCHEDULE

 

Swim squad
Tuesdays 5-6am.  Held at the Albany Creek Leisure Centre this session will be a mix of intervals and technique work.  Minimum fitness requirement is to be able to swim 1k confidently.
Run squad 
Based out of the South Pine Sports Complex, in term 4 2021, we'll be doing a mixture of interval and fartlek style training.  These sessions will be approximately 3-5k in distance total.
Bike skills training
We're keeping this session in the program this term to take some more time out to work on those small areas that need fine tuning prior to it warming up and the race season recommencing.  We'll be working on mounts and dismounts, balancing, cornering etc.
Aquathlon (run/swim/run)
The first couple of weeks of term we're planning a couple of open water swims + runs to help prep for All Schools.  These sessions will be a mixture of open water swim skills and tactics plus running
Road ride + park run
After all schools Saturdays will be a road ride (for those juniors riding in cleats) to Sandgate park run where we'll run off the bike.  Following completion of park run we'll ride back to our start point to finish off the morning.

TRAINING FEES

Session fees are $15 (incl GST) for casual one off sessions or $150 (incl GST) for TA members and $240 (incl GST) for NON-TA members for the full term, unlimited sessions.
